Profile: |
During season 1931-32 Hill, along with four other players was at the centre of a betting scandal that led to the Club putting him up for transfer. He had begun his career with Forfar Athletic 1924-1928, before joining Aberdeen where he was regarded as a solid and reliable half-back. When put up for transfer he moved to Arsenal for an estimated fee of £3000 1932-1936, Blackpool 1936-1937,Southampton 1937-1938, Crewe Alexandra 1944-1948 Player-Manager. Also managed at Burnley, Preston North End, Notts County and Charlton Athletic before emigrating to California in 1967. Died in June 1993 aged 87.
Chosen
I HAD not heard of Frank Hill, the Aberdeen, Arsenal and Scotland footballer, for a long time.
Frank, however, is still playing great football. I see he has been chosen to play for the R.A.F. against Western Command at Chester on January 22.
Before the war, be was on the training staff of Preston North End. He holds the rank of flying officer in the R.A.F.
