Profile: |
Name: Francis Robert Watson
A SPEEDY CONVALESCENCE, FRANK.
Supporters will have learned with sorrow of the serious illness of our reserve goal-keeper, Frank Watson. There is no more popular player at Pittodrie than the genial Frank and all wish him an early return to good health. He is now in his final year of an Honours Arts Course at Aberdeen University. Here's hoping that Frank will soon be fit and well and that his proud wife will be watching him in June next as he ascends the platform of the Mitchell Hall to be capped M.A.
Source: Match Programme, 27th September 1952
Army service kept down Frank's early appearances for the Dons but once demobbed he became a first team regular as well as starring in reserve matches. Died from polio in Aberdeen on 5th November 1952. Black armbands were worn at the match against Raith Rovers on 8th November 1952 and a match was played for his Memorial Fund against Stoke City in September 1953.Full
