Profile: |
One of the most promising young central defenders in Scotland, he graduated from
Aberdeen's youth team and was a regular in the first team since breaking into it during
the 2003/04 season - he was one of the few positives that emerged from the struggling
Aberdeen side under Steve Paterson. Zander followed in a proud tradition of great Aberdeen
central defenders and everyone at Pittodrie had high hopes that he would develop into an
established international defender. In his time at Aberdeen, he made 249 appearances for the Dons,
scoring 19 goals.
He was a huge fans favourite as he always give 100% and wore his heart on his sleeve.
Zander was appointed vice captain for the 2008/09 season and also had the distinction of
captaining the Scotland U-21 side. He signed a new contract in January 2008 which ensured that his future would be at Aberdeen until the summer of 2011. Towards the end of the 2010-2011 season, Hearts expressed an interest in signing Zander and it was accepted that he would leve the Dons after nine seasons of first team football. However, he chose to move to England and played out his career there, retiring in 2018 because of back problems.Full Name: Alezander Kevin Diamond
