Profile: |
In 2005 Chris was the latest young Aberdeen player to make the breakthrough into the first team, Maguire was tipped to be a player with a big future. Quick and skillful, he made his debut as a 17 year old in the Dons final game of season 2005/06 against Celtic after scoring two spectacular goals in the Dons youth cup meeting with the young Celtic side earlier that season. Maguire made his first team appearance in season 2005/06, His first starting appearance in the
senior team was on 26 December 2006 against Kilmarnock, where he also scored his first
senior goal for the club after 5 minutes. He has scored some vital goals in the 2007/08
season including a 94th minute header against Inverness CT and twice in a 2-1 win against
Falkirk just days later. Maguire has had to wait patiently for his chance to shine but his
confidence was given a huge boost as he scored in both of the Scotland U-21 matches
against Albania last season. Following that was given an extended run in the side in a
forward berth and showed everyone the talent he has. On 16 July 2008, Maguire signed a
three year contract extension with the Dons which keeps the youngster at Pittodrie until
the summer of 2011.
Chris joined fellow SPL side Kilmarnock, joining up with former Aberdeen Manager Jimmy Calderwood on 1st Feb 2010, returning to Pittodrie at the end of that season to continue his career with the Dons before leaving to joing Derby County.
He had a somewhat nomadic career in England where he played for 10 different clubs in all, several on loan, and notably Sunderland FC. In February 2023 he returned to Scottish Football when he joined Ayr United on a contract till the end of the season.
