Son of James and Christina Neilson, of 7, Station Rd., Ellon, Aberdeenshire.
Native of Montrose. Killed
in Action 28/10/1917, age 29.
Sergeant James Hadden Neilson (29) was a native of Montrose and enlisted
in the Lovat Scouts which was a mounted regiment. However as the war developed
there was little need for mounted troops and the unit was converted to
infantry and became the 10th Battalion, Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders
which was part of a force sent to help the Greeks who were on our side
in the war. James' death occurred on 28th October 1917 and he is buried
in Kirechkoi-Hortakoi Military Cemetery, near Thessaloniki in Northern
Greece. |
