Gary joined the Dons on a short term loan from Oldham Athletic on 5th October 2020. The arrangement was to provide cover for the injured Tomas Cerny. Gary had previous experience of Scottish football with Hamilton Academical and Ross County. On 12th January 2021 the loan was extended to the end of the season when, on the 7th of May it was announced that he would sign on for a further two years.
