Jim joined up in February 2022 in place of Stephen Glass. He inherited an underperforming side and quickly set about planning a major rebuild of his squad for the following season. The clear-out of players was substantial, not quite on the scale of the famous purge when Eddie Turnbull took charge in the mid sixties, but enough to create a sensation in the media. The hunt for new players over the summer was extensive, with significant money spent on transfer fees, and coupled with a willingness to give young players their chance, a very different squad opened season 2022-2023.
Despite some impressive early home form and very entertaining football, on the road the team struggled and following a terrible run of results after the World Cup break, including the worst Scottish Cup defeat in the Club's history, Jim was dismissed from his post on 28th January 2023.
