Connor was signed by Alex Ferguson in 1986 in an exchange deal that took Ian Angus to Dens Park. Connor had already been capped at Youth and Under-21 International level by the time he arrived at Aberdeen, and the cultured midfielder went on to gain further honours at Pittodrie. He was part of the Dons double cup winning side of 1989-90, and played against England at Hampden in 1989. Connor had previously been with Ayr United before moving to Dens Park in 1984.
Connor was capped against Holland in Eindhoven two years later, and it was this form that attracted Aberdeen who paid Dundee £380,000
for his services.
A serious injury in season 1991-92 meant an extended lay off from the game, and when Connor finally emerged from his injury nightmare, Willie Miller moved him on in the summer of 1994. Connor finished his career at
Kilmarnock and latterly Ayr United, his first senior club. Bobby still works in the game as a Football Agent.
