Archie arrived at Pittodrie in 1938 but had to bide his time before finally making his competitive debut after the war in 1946. His only appearance for the national side came against Belgium in 1946. He was in the Aberdeen side that won their first trophy on the national stage; scoring in the Dons 3-2 win over Rangers in the Southern League Cup. Baird was also in the Aberdeen side that won their first Scottish
Cup a year later in 1947. A tall inside forward, Baird was a master in the air and arguably one of the finest inside forwards ever to grace Pittodrie. He Joined Aberdeen from Strathclyde Juniors in 1938 and left Aberdeen in May 1953 to join St Johnstone.
