This poster promoting the European Cup Winners Cup Final was presented to The Aberdeen Collection by long-time Dons supporter Andrew Duthie who told us:

“I spent a week in Gothenburg on holiday and did not return to Aberdeen on the Saturday just in time to be at Pittodrie for the final match v Hibernian.

“I attended the final with 2 friends and on the morning after visited the Ullevi stadium. We explained to the security guard that we were Aberdeen supporters and if possible could we have a walk on the pitch. He was very obliging. What we could not believe was the length of the grass on the playing surface which was still soaking wet.

“Whilst we were walking around the pitch the security guard presented me and my friends with a poster each as a memento of the evening. My friends lost their posters many years ago, but I kept mine safely in a cupboard at home until I handed it over to the Heritage Trust. My rational is that it is better being available for the public to view as opposed to sitting in a dark cupboard in my flat.”

A great ephemeral piece of the story of that famous night in rain drenched Gothenburg the poster must have been produced well ahead of the final match as, whilst it has the all-important date on it, it does not mention the participating finalists.
