match report 1893-94 fixture list
Victoria United 3 - 1 Dundonians
Kick Off:
Attendance: 0
Venue: Wellington Bridge Grounds, Aberdeen
In the Dark
The new Dundee combination made its first visit to Aberdeen for the purpose of playing a friendly match with Victoria United. To judge from the appearance of the strangers, the amalgamation of Johnstone Wanderers and Strathmore has not resulted in the formation of a team equal to either of the two clubs named. In the first half they did fairly well, and were on equal terms at half-time, but on crossing over, the Vics, soon asserted their superiority. Result: United 3; Dundonians 1.

Such is said to have been the result of the above fixture, which was played under (very much under) electric light in the Wellington Grounds on Wednesday evening of last week, on behoof of the joiners on strike It was a delightful game of hide-and-seek, and if the spectators didn't see much of the play, they had the satisfaction of knowing that they had assisted the strikers to the tune of 19. The "draw" must have been very satisfactory to one individual, Mr George Mettle, the ancient and enthusiastic Caledonian cricketer, to whom the joiners owe a bumping vote of thanks.
