Victoria United had the honour of a visit from the famous Heart of Midlothian Club. Although not in full, strength, the strangers had with them such well-known men as Fairbairn, Begbie, Taylor, and Russell. The game had not been long started when McLaren put on the first goal for the strangers. After this the local men did much better, but they were unable to overcome the fine defence of the Hearts. Again and again they seemed within an ace of scoring, but they were always baffled. At half-time the strangers were three goals ahead. Ends having been changed, it became evident that the United had spent themselves in the first half. They were quite unable to withstand the rushes of their opponents, who added goal after goal till their total stood at 8. United scored once by Morrice. Result: Hearts 8, United 1.
