The competition for this cup was advanced another stage on Saturday, when Victoria United and Orion met before a large crowd at Central Park. United, who played uphill in the first half, had to do most of the defensive work at the outset. They, however, worked their way up the field, and a free kick near goalmouth gave Smith the opportunity of scoring their first goal. This was the only point notched in the first half.
During the concluding period, Orion, although playing uphill, had the best of matters, find within a few minutes two goals were scored, An equalising point, put on by Ferries, again raised the excitement, and as the game was drawing to a close there was a keen struggle for the mastery. Orion were successful, and the match ended: Orion 3, United 2.
