Orion's new ground at Cattofield was opened on Saturday by a friendly game with Dundee, played in presence of about 2000 spectators. A large amount of work had been expended in levelling the field, which, although soft as yet, promises to be an excellent pitch when it becomes firmer. Councillor Glass, president of the Orion Club, kicked off the ball amid loud cheers. Orion had the best of the opening passages, but after the first enthusiasm wore off, Dundee with wind, sun, and incline in their favour, worked down to the home goal, and before half-time they had three points - all from the foot of Gilligan. Soon after crossing over the ground eleven came away with a fine spurt, and Stopani scored two brilliant goals. Had the effort been continued Orion would have won, but the heat and the heavy ground soon told on them, and Dundee, who had taken matters very coolly meanwhile, added a fourth point, which placed the issue beyond doubt, and the game ended: Dundee 4, Orion 2.The home club, with the exception of the back division, played a capital game, and, so far as can be judged from an opening match, will do well during the season. For Dundee, Keillor, the famous wing player, appeared at half-back, and his appearance gave so much satisfaction that the change is likely to be permanent. Otherwise the team did weft, Barrett saving with his usual coolness and intrepidity.
