Aberdeenshire Cup Semi Final
19/01/1895

Victoria United 2 - 2 The Aberdeen
Kick Off:    W. Ririe, Macfarlane       Toman, Toman
Attendance: 0
Venue: Victoria Bridge, Aberdeen
At Torry, in the semi-final of the Aberdeenshire cup ties. The teams were: Aberdeen - Smyth; John Davidson, Gall; Allott, Joe Davidson, Thomson; Turner, Taylor, Toman, Gray, Mackie. Victoria United - Sim; Thomson, J. Ririe; Morrice, W. Ririe, Annand; Murison, Macfarlane, Caie, Forsyth, Clark. Mr J. Robertson, of the Partick Thistle, was referee.

Toman kicked off for Aberdeen, and Forsyth, getting hold of the leather, passed to Murison, who was held in check by Davidson. A foul was given against the Whites, and the ball having been sent to midfield, Aberdeen forwards found their way towards their opponents' goal. In endeavouring to clear, Ririe unwittingly fouled Aberdeen's centre forward, and Toman took the kick. A scrimmage ensued in goalmouth, with the result that Toman again got hold and banged the ball into the net. Murison subsequently had a splendid run along the right wing, outstripping Gall, and sending in a fast shot which nearly took effect. Both goals were visited in quick succession, and the Whites had several likely chances which they spoiled by erratic shooting. Murison and Macfarlane made matters look hopeful for Victoria, but their efforts culminated in a corner, from which W. Ririe nearly scored. The Whites endeavoured to break away, but the back division of the Victoria United could not be pierced; and after a tussle with Mackie, Murison forced a corner. By a splendid piece of play W. Ririe converted it into a goal. The ball hardly left Toman's foot until Clark laid hold, and when near the line centred to Macfarlane, who sent it past Smyth for second time. The Whites now made a gallant effort to equalise, a combined run by the forwards compelling Sim to kick out. A foul off Ririe did not benefit Aberdeen to any extent, and Thomson, with a long kick sent the ball well down the field. Allot passed in the direction of Turner, and this player, after beating Thomson, centred in beautiful style. Toman was in his place, and taking up the pass shot for goal. The Victoria United custodian made an effort to save, but Toman rushed up and scored the second point for Aberdeen, thus equalising. In the second half the Blues took up the offensive. Fouls were of frequent occurrence, and play, on the whole, was far inferior to that of the first three quarters. Eventually Caie passed to Forsyth, who stood a few yards from the goal mouth and the ball was sent through. Offside was claimed, and the goal was disallowed. The game resulted in a draw, two goals each.
