Clackmannan Badly Beaten
These teams met in a friendly at Victoria Bridge Grounds before a fair attendance. The ground was in capital condition, but the excessive heat rendered play very uncomfortable. Teams: Victoria United - Gillespie; Anderson, Ririe; Morrice, Caie, Annand; Ritchie, G. McFarlane, Sinclair, Forsyth, A. McFarlane. Clackmannan - G. Whyte ; Malcolm, Black; W. Halley, P. Whyte, J. Halley; Turnbull, Macleay, Hunter, Harrower, Blair. Referee, Mr Aitchison.

The game throughout was devoid of interest, both teams adopting the kick and rush style. During the first period of the match, the Victoria United, notwithstanding the fact that they had a strong breeze, against them, had undoubtedly the best of matters. Fully 15 minutes from the start A. McFarlane finished a capital run by sending in a well-placed shot, which, although very soft, baffled the strangers' custodian. It was quite evident that the Clackmannan were no match for the United. Even with only the goalkeeper to beat, they failed to place the ball in the net. On the other hand, although the home eleven were not in the pink of condition they were constantly bombarding the opponents' citadel. Out of a scrimmage, Sinclair succeeded in notching the second point. Half-time was called with the, United leading by two goals to nil.

On resuming, the Blues completely hemmed in their opponents. The Clackmannan made desperate efforts to cross mid-field, and although, they did succeed once or twice they never proved dangerous. During the second period some very questionable tactics were indulged in by both elevens, which nearly resulted in a scene. The United retained the mastery, and before time was called they added other two points through the instrumentality of G. McFarlane and Ritchie. Result: Victoria United 4, Clackmannan 0.

Re-inforced by little Sinclair, a light of other days, and Alec McFarlane, the Victoria United polished off Clackmannan by 4 goals to nil. It was a reckless sort of game, and no wonder, as when tempers are lost what else can be looked for. The Clackmannan lads played hard, but they don't appear to pay very much attention to the scientific side of play. The blues are now getting into shape, and in a few weeks they may be counted upon to worthily uphold the honour of the club. The McFarlanes, Forsyth, Ritchie and clever wee Sinclair should prove a strong forward battalion? indeed not far behind their friends out Cattofield way.
