Before an attendance of about 1500 the Orion met the Kilmarnock at Cattofield. The teams were: Kilmarnock - Gordon; McCrone, Busby; McPherson, Cochrane, Johnstone; Watson, Fisher, Campbell, McAvoy, McLean. Orion - McBean; Edwards, Mitchell; Wight, McBain, Currie; Benzie, Leggat, J. Flaws, Clark, Stopani. Mr Mundie, Aberdeen, officiated as referee.
The Kilmarnock's movements as they carried the ball along the field were really splendid to witness. From the kick-off they were masters of the situation, and play was for the most part confined to the Orion's quarters. About ten minutes from the start Fisher sent in a shot which baffled McBean. Shortly afterwards Campbell, with a swift shot, registered the visitors' second goal. After some neat combination on the part of the southern eleven, Fisher crowned a capital run by beating McBean for the third time. Before half-time was called, the Kilmarnock, through the medium of McPherson, added another point. Half-time result: Kilmarnock, 4; Orion, 0. During the second period the Kilmarnock maintained the superiority, and added other three goals. Result: Kilmarnock, 7; Orion, 0.
