Under league auspices the Orion met the Fair City Athletic at Cattofield before a large turnout of spectators. The visitors by resourceful and active play were leading by 2 goals to nil at half-time. During the second period the Orion actively bestirred themselves, and scored 3 goals; while their opponents only got 1. Result: Orion, 3; Fair City Athletic 3.

In very disagreeable weather, the reorganised forces of the Orion, after looking all over a beaten team, made a draw of it with the Fair City Athletic (3 goals each). Twenty minutes to time, the City held the commanding lead of 3 goals to nil, when the Stripes seemed to recognise that they must do or die. Getting down in a body on Seaton, they rushed their first point through, and very quickly added two more. A short, sharp struggle ensued for the winning point in the few moments remaining - which the strangers almost secured - but neither could score, and the game ended as stated above. The change in the Orion front rank was altogether too radical in its character to be a success. Of the two "Richmonds," Bruce came well out of the trial, but he is on the light side. Lil Duncan, the Clifton cricketer, seemed to lose his head, and could simply do nothing with the ball. He is a likely lad, however, with plenty of weight - and might be brushed up in second-rate matches. Murison (late of the Vics) made a good appearance, playing well with Benzie, who was the best of a mediocre line. Keith in centre did not do badly, and may improve. The halves were erratic, but the backs put in some good work, and McBean in goal could not be grumbled at. The City played a rushing game, and played it to a nicety. The best of the lot was the left back, as fine a defender as has been seen in Aberdeen this season. In Thom's absence, I would suggest the following team:? McBean; McKay, Ross; Wight, Dawson, Currie; Benzie, Leggat, Murison, Stopani, Bruce.
