There was a fair attendance of spectators on Links Park, Montrose, when these teams met, although the weather was very disagreeable, rain falling heavily at times, and being accompanied by a strong northerly breeze, which blew across the field. Play at first was of a give-and-take nature. At length, after repeated attempts at goal, Mackie scored for Aberdeen. Put on their mettle, the Montrose retaliated, and a high shot from James was successful in equalising. With the scores thus equal the teams crossed over. Aberdeen at once assumed the aggressive, but were repulsed, the Montrose goalkeeper and backs playing well. Operations were then transferred to the other end, where the goalkeeper was called on to keep out several shots. Getting a chance near the Montrose goalmouth, the Aberdeen forwards ran the ball speedily down the field. At the other end a misunderstanding between Henderson, the goalkeeper, and Fullarton, the left back, enabled Aberdeen to score. With eight minutes to go, Montrose renewed their exertions, and a minute or so before the close of the game Thomson put in the equalising shot. The game, which was very fast towards the close, thus ended in a draw of two goals each.
