Orion 10 - 3 Linthouse
Kick Off:
Attendance: 3,000
Venue: Cattofield, Aberdeen
A crowd of between 2000 and 3000 gathered to witness the encounter between the Orion and the Linthouse at Cattofield little more than half an hour after the finish of the interesting game at Torry. The strangers are not among the leading Scottish elevens, but they are certainly superior to any of the north of Scotland clubs, and therefore it was expected that the Orion would have to play for all they knew to hold their own in the encounter. Unfortunately, however, some of the south team were in holiday form, and before the close the game became pretty much of a fiasco, the Orion simply shooting for goal. The match ended in favour of the Orion by 10-3, and if the winners had not been so reckless at times they could have considerably increased that score. The first half, which ended in a draw of two goals each, was, interesting, the Orion especially giving a good exhibition. The principal feature of the first period was the forward play of Hogg, who, notwithstanding heavy odds in the matter of weight, succeeded in eluding his opponents and centring several fine shots, which, however, ware seldom followed up. In the second half the strangers completely fell away, and were defeated at all points. They seldom crossed midfield. and when they did, they were with only one exception repulsed by the excellent defence of Anderson and Grant. The Orion, by better combination than had been seen on their part this season, were almost constantly in their opponents' quarters, and Healey, the visitors custodian, was never allowed a rest. Shot followed shot, and as effective were most of them that the Orion's goal register rose by leaps and bounds. A penalty kick against the Linthouse was taken by Hogg, and he neatly placed the ball in the net. The scorers on the side of the Orion were Hogg, Dawson, Duncan, Thom, and Leggat. The teams were: Linthouse - Healey; McNaughton, Morrison; Stewart, Steele, Mackintosh; Barker, Pearson, Thomson, Niblo, Mateer. Orion - McBean; James Low, Ross; Wight, John Low, Currie; Duncan, Dawson, Thom, Leggatt, and Hogg. Mr Allison. Paisley, discharged with satisfaction the duties of referee.
