Notwithstanding the cold and uninviting nature of the weather, a fairly large crowd of spectators assembled at Cattofield to witness the friendly encounter between St Andrews University and Orion. Mr James Philip was referee. The teams were: St Andrews: Husband; Turnbull, Thom; Menzies, Masterton, Westwood; Unsworth, J. Dawson, Brown, D. H. Dawson, Milne. Orion: McBean; Gordon, James Low; Currie, John Low, Dawson; A. McFarlane, M. McFarlane, Duncan, Leggat, Hogg. The nature of the ground rendered scientific play out of the question, and the game was practically void of interest. The Orion had the best of matters, and never had occasion to exert themselves. The university team played in a gentlemanly manner, and met with a similar treatment from the Orion. The game ended - Orion 5, St Andrews 1.
