Aberdeen and Orion played one of the ties of the Gershon Cup competition at Cattofield, Aberdeen, last night. There was a fairly large attendance. Aberdeen had the advantage of the incline during the first half, and had most of the play, which was of a mediocre character. Orion's front rank showed excellent combination, but they were unable to outwit Davidson and Gall, the defence of whom was the feature of the match. Aberdeen secured the first goal as the result of a scrimmage. Shortly afterwards Thomson beat McBean with a low, swift shot. When the teams crossed over, Aberdeen was leading by two goals to nil. Orion took the game in hand immediately after the restart, and Aberdeen were hemmed in on all sides; indeed they were unable for the greater part of the period to cross midfield. Davidson and Gall fought vigorously at back for Aberdeen, but they were eventually outmanoeuvred by the Orion forwards; and, as the result of some pretty passing. McFarlane headed through. The same player was largely instrumental in securing a second goal to Orion. The teams remained on level terms until well nigh the close, when Aberdeen unexpectedly broke away, and Thomson put on a pretty goal. Orion could not retrieve their position, and the match ended in a victory for Aberdeen by three goals to two. Teams: Aberdeen: Ritchie; Davidson, Gall; J, Mackie, Henderson, J. Thomson; Mackintosh, J. Thomson, C. W. Mackie, Milne, Gray. Orion: McBean; James Low, Ross; Dawson, Low, Currie; MacFarlane, Duncan, Thom, Leggat, Hogg. Mr R. Turner was referee.
