Gershon Cup
The Aberdeen 1 - 5 Orion
Kick Off:
Attendance: 0
Venue: Chanonry, Aberdeen
That interest in the game has not altogether died down in Aberdeen was amply evidenced by the number of persons who gathered at Chanonry on Saturday to witness the final encounter for the possession of the handsome cup given by Mr A. Gershon to the club having the greatest number of points from a certain, number of matches. Up to a mouth ago it was generally expected that the trophy would go to either the Victoria United or the Orion, the Aberdeen not being for a moment taken into account, their play at that time not entitling them to any consideration. But a wonderful improvement set in several weeks ago, and since then the Aberdeen have defeated both the United and the Orion. By so doing they deprived the United of any chance of winning the cup, and placed themselves on an equal footing with the Orion. At the critical moment, however, the Orion are seldom caught napping; this is true at least this season. Webster seems to be a decided acquisition at forward, and with M. McFarlane in his old position the front, rank worked very well together. The Orion by 5-1 won the cup. Their season's record is creditable indeed, and overshadows that of the United and Aberdeen. They have won the Northern League championship, an achievement in itself worthy of the-highest commendation, and they have also gained the Aberdeenshire Cup and the Gershon Cup.
