Collapse of Orion
These teams met at Gayfield Park, Arbroath, in a Northern League tie. The crowd was the biggest at Gayfield this season. Teams: Orion - McBean; Ross, Scott; Dawson, Low, Currie; A. McFarlane, W. McFarlane, Thom, Leggat, Hogg. Arbroath - McWattie; Carrie, Penny; Davidson, McGlashan, Anderson; Leuchars, Middleton, Sword, Milne, Ford. Arbroath winning the toss, chose to defend the north goal, and in doing so had a slight advantage from the wind. Middleton was the first to score, and he followed with a second goal. Sword put the ball through a third time for Arbroath. Then what proved to be the only goal in the game tor the northern men was taken by Leggat. The Orion, although unfortunate at the goal, showed good play, and attacked vigorously in the second half. They were well met by the Arbroath team, however, who added four goals to their score, the game ending: Arbroath, 7 goals ; Orion, 1. In the same competition two or three weeks ago Orion defeated Arbroath by 8 goals to 1, and the Arbroath men, amidst the excitement of the spectators, made a vigorous effort to defeat the Orion on Saturday by the same score, but they failed to take the eighth goal.

At Arbroath on Saturday Orion had to put up with as big a defeat as they have got for many a day. With the wind in their favour Arbroath early got into the net, and soon had three goals to their credit. Leggat before half time managed to get a point for the visitors. The second half was a repetition of the opening period, Arbroath having matters pretty much their own way. Ere call of time they had other four goals, the game ending in a decisive victory for the Maroons by 7-1.

Short Kicks.

The news that Orion had got defeated by 7-1 could scarcely be credited.
The backs and goalkeeper were weak. McBean has not been playing up to last season's form lately.
The whole team seemed to be indulging in a day off, and the less said about it the better.
Perhaps they were only taking things easy in view of the Qualifying tie at Cattofield against Lochee on Saturday first.
They will not require to take their opponents too cheaply. Lochee are a vastly improved lot from last season. Coventry, in particular, strengthens them greatly.
