Large Crowd at Pittodrie |
 |
There was a crowd of fully 10,000 spectators at Pittodrie last night, where sides of the Aberdeen football team engaged in a trial match. What is regarded as the first team defense was pitted against the first team forward line, the side which included the latter claiming the victory by 2 goals to 1. The play savoured of the season's preliminary order, and, although the trial was satisfactory enough, the rough edge has yet to be worn off the play before the team could with any confidence be pitted against a competitive side. There were periods when the play was quite interesting, but both sets of forwards were weak at goal. Great interest was taken in the play of the new-comers, Milne, Travers, and McConnell, who acquitted themselves fairly well. Milne scored both the goals which gave his side the victory. The first came as the result of a mistake of the opposing defence, but his second was got by a lovely head effort. The defence side got their goal as the result of a miskick by Edgar, but the lost several splendid opportunities of scoring through weakness in front of goal. Both sides have yet a long way to go ere they attain accuracy, but from last night's showing there would appear to be no lack of ability in the club.
The collection for charity amounted to £16 another trial will be played tomorrow evening
