Keen Tussle in Trial at Pittodrie
CROWD OF ABOUT 12,000
A crowd of about 12,000 turned out to witness Aberdeen F.C.'s trial game at Pittodrie on Saturday evening, and they were treated to a keen, interesting display.
A feature of the match was the good performances of the Dons' new recruits - Johnstone, Newton, Dunlop, and Black each of whom proved clever and effective.
An unfortunate feature was that both left backs, McGill and Urquhart, had to retire. They had pulled a muscle in their legs, but it was explained after the match by Trainer Colman that the injuries were not serious, and that they had left the field more as a precaution. Their places were by Temple and "Dick" Ritchie.
Exciting Game
The players did not spare themselves, and the result was a close and at times exciting game. Armstrong opened the Blues' account when he put a Beynon pass into the corner of the net, but five minutes later Scott levelled matters.
A few minutes after the restart, Scott was fouled inside the penalty area, and Thomson's spot kick gave Johnstone no chance. Another penalty was awarded fifteen minutes later, this time to the Blues, when Armstrong was fouled. Mills shot strong and true.
Five minutes later came the fifth and last goal, Scott making good use of a slip from Brown to give victory by the odd goal the Black and Gold team.
