ABERDEEN TWICE WHACK DUNDEE |
 |
In the Cup final, Aberdeen waltzed through the opposition. Dundee suffered a severe loss when Bermet, their goalkeeper, was carried off. on the other hand, Green was injured at the same time as Bennet and was practically of little use to the team afterwards. Also, Cooper, the Aberdeen captain, was off the field with a nose injury for a fairly lengthy period, and for at least twenty minutes the Dons had only nine fit men on the field. The Dons' success in the Oup final was worthily earned.
Apart from injuries to players, Aberdeen gave the impression from the very start of the game at Dens Park that they would have beaten Dundee by just as great a score even had the homesters been at full strength all the time.
Every Aberdeen player was at the top his game. All five goals - four by Waldron and one by Pattillo - were scored before the interval.
In the second half the Dons, although missing chances, were always playing well within themselves, and could have pulled out a lot more had it been necessary.
George Johnstone inspired confidence in goal. There was no better back the field than Cooper, and Dyer supported him well.
Great Teamwork
It was the Aberdeen half-back line, however, which really paved the way for such a handsome victory. They splendid football.
Forward, apart from Waldron, for whom the game was a triumph, Pattillo and Williams took the honours. Pattillo has developed into one of the most dangerous men in the game.
The general impression, even among Dundee supporters, was that the Dons were far ahead of Dundee and were worthy winners.
