10 Man Dons Lose Out to Hibs
A controversial penalty decision in Hibs? favour on the stroke of half-time, which also reduced the Dons to ten men, transformed the match, turning what was looking a really good game into defeat at Easter Road.

As Aberdeen returned to action, there was one change to Jim Goodwin?s team from the side that started in the 1-1 draw with Ross County, Duk replacing the suspended Leighton Clarkson. Christian Ramirez returned to the Dons? bench.

There was just the one change for Hibs too after their 1-0 win over Kilmarnock a fortnight ago, with Mykola Kuharevich replacing Ewan Henderson, who dropped to the bench.

Following a minute of applause in memory of Queen Elizabeth II., the game got underway with Vicente Besuijen and Jonny Hayes on the flanks, Duk and Bojan Miovski up front for the visitors.

It took Duk all of four minutes to mark his first Dons start with a goal. Hayes, Ross McCrorie and Hayden Coulson combined, the left-back bending in a sharp cross to the near post. Running onto it, Duk found a powerful flicked header, using the pace of the ball to direct it across goal and into the far corner.

Hibs had the ball in the net on 13, Porteous poking the ball at goal from a corner, Hanlon jabbing it over the line from a couple of yards out, only to be given offside.

A couple of minutes later, there was a Hibs call for a penalty when a long ball into the box clipped McCrorie?s arm as he went up for a header, but a corner was given instead ? it was an accidental touch from the vice-captain, but the decision could easily have gone the other way.

Besuijen was on the run down the right on 16 minutes, floating the ball to the back post for Duk. He headed down into the six-yard box, Porteous slicing the ball over his own bar, another nervy moment for the hosts. Hibs were next to threaten, Porteous heading over at the near post from a left wing free-kick on 20 minutes, the game swinging from end to end.

Anthony Stewart was in the book on 27 minutes, clipping Campbell?s heels as the two ran for the ball 30 yards out. Newell?s free-kick was weak and straight at Kelle Roos. Hibs were working their way back into the game, mounting a couple of dangerous counter-attacks over the following ten minutes or so, but the Dons were well organised in defence to snuff out the threat.

Nobody closed Youan down as he was on the run on 39 minutes though. He cut in from the left, completely unchallenged, to unleash a shot from 25 yards out, Roos tipping the ball over the bar. From the resulting corners, Coulson was on the run, drawing a foul from Kenneh who collected a yellow card. Scales picked up another on 43 minutes for a pretty robust tackle on Campbell.

The hosts were awarded a penalty a minute later as from a Hibs corner, Scales and Porteous tangled in the box, a wrestling match probably started by the Hibs man. It looked a harsh decision ? a typical ?six and two threes? tussle you get at every corner ? but it got worse when Scales was then booked and red carded. Boyle sent Roos the wrong way and tucked the penalty away for 1-1.

Aberdeen reacted swiftly, Duk replaced by Dante Polvara as McCrorie went to centre-half. There was still time for Miovski to get booked as he and Cadden went up for a header together, another questionable call.

HALF-TIME: HIBERNIAN 1 ABERDEEN 1

Hibs weren?t far away from opening the second half with a goal in the opening minute, Campbell dragging the ball back from the by-line, Roos collecting the ball under pressure at the near post. Aberdeen made a second change on 55 minutes, Coulson replaced by Jack MacKenzie.

Roos was in sharp action a minute later, saving from Campbell at the near post as he tried to squeeze the ball in from a tight angle after the Hibs man had got in behind courtesy of a Cadden ball forward.

There was better yet from Roos on 58 minutes, a double save as Hibs poured forward, first pawing away a Porteous cross then getting up quickly to deny Newell as he followed in for the rebound. It was one-way traffic thus far in the second half as Hibs tried to press home the one man advantage they had. Doyle-Hayes replaced Kennah for the home side on the hour.

Two minutes later, Hibs were in front. Cadden brought the ball forward before threading it into Campbell on the edge of the box. Given far too much space, it was a straightforward task for the Hibs man to drill a low shot home from 14 yards. It could have been worse a couple of minutes later, Boyle rampaging forward only to be denied by a brilliant blocking tackle from MacKenzie. Another change came for Hibs on 72 minutes, Jair replacing Youan.

It was 3-1 within a minute, Campbell poaching his second. A long ball to the back post from Cadden saw McCrorie up to win a header, but his attempted clearance only squirted back across goal and Campbell was all alone eight yards out to poke the ball home.

The Dons should have been back in it on 75 minutes. Jayden Richardson galloped away down the right hand side on the counter attack and picked out a neat pass to find Miovski all alone six yards out but with the goal at his mercy, he only managed to scoop his effort wide of the goal. Marley Watkins and Shayden Morris replaced Richardson and Besuijen three minutes later.

Doyle-Hayes was in the book on 79 minutes for dragging Ylber Ramadani back when he was on the break, though the referee should have played the advantage. Campbell and Kuharevich were then replaced by Henderson and Bojang on 85 minutes as the home side were happy to run the clock down. McCrorie collected an injury time booking for a late challenge on Jair, summing up the Dons? frustration.
