A TAME FINISH BY ABERDEEN. Beaten by St Johnstone
In their last League match of the season, Aberdeen fell to St Johnstone at Perth by two goals to one.
It was a drab game, and it was apparent that both teams were feeling the effects of a strenuous season.
Aberdeen held the advantage in attack, where McDermid and Love were most prominent, while St Johnstone were sounder in defence than in attack. McLaren, Steel, and Forrest were a much safer rear trio than Yuill, Jackson, and Livingstone. The half-back lines were of equal strength. Black and McLaren being best in the Aberdeen mid-line, and Ferguson and Swallow for St Johnstone.<.br> St Johnstone attacked at the start, and Main missed narrowly with a swerving shot. Aberdeen retaliated, and after Cheyne had shot over, Yorston just failed to get his head to a lob by Love. Main, the Saints' dashing leader, took the eye with a great drive which Yuill saved at full stretch. The visitors were unfortunate when, after twenty minutes' play, tricky work by Yorston and Cheyne resulted in the former missing narrowly.

Even Exchanges.

The exchanges were even nature, both sets of forwards attacking in turn, and each goalkeeper being kept busy.
After a spell of pressure by the home team, during which Yuill saved from Webb, and Black struck the crossbar, Aberdeen got going, and McLaren saved well from McDermid, Yorston, and Love. The Pittodrie team continued to show well, and a lightning drive by McDermid was blocked, and McLaren shot past.
St Johnstone retaliated strongly, and Yuill Just managed to smother an effort by Main. Shortly afterwards the home team forced a corner, and then Yuill saved from Stevenson.
At the other end a shot by McDermid missed narrowly, and from a cross by Smith, McLaren pushed out a header by Yorston. The ball went to Cheyne, who shot wildly over. The interval arrived with a blank score-sheet.

Aberdeen Open the Scoring.

Aberdeen resumed in convincing fashion, and McLaren fisted clear from Smith. In a counter raid Gavigan struck the crossbar from a corner, and then after seventeen minutes' play Aberdeen took the lead. Love snapped up a pass by McDermid, and ran on to score from well out.
St Johnstone rallied after this reverse, and Black might have done better when he shot over from close range. The Saints kept up a stiff pressure, and after Webb had missed narrowly, Stevenson missed the mark by inches. The home team were rewarded when Main collected a pass from Webb to put his side on level terms.

Saints Take the Lead.

This success put new life into the home team, and the Aberdeen goal had several narrow escapes. In a breakaway by the visitors Love and Black sent over. Saints returned to the attack, and Yuill, before he could recover from saving a shot by Main, was beaten by Webb.
With defeat imminent Aberdeen attacked with renewed vigour, and McLaren saved in quick succession from Cheyne and Smith. Another splendid drive by Smith was saved, and then Saints maintained the role of attackers until the finish.
