dons draw again
Steve Lovell made his Dons debut as Aberdeen fought out a 0-0 draw with De Graafschap in Aalten this evening.

The Dons striker making his first start was about the only highlight in what was an extremely dull pre-season game.

Calderwood started with a 4-4-2 formation but changed it to 4-3-3 after 10 minutes or so. Richard Foster at right back, Byrne on the left side with Considine in central defence with Jamie Winter. Clark, Dempsey and Nicholson played in the middle with Smith moved up front to play with Lovell and Stewart.

Aberdeen's only really decent chance of the first half involved Lovell. John Stewart had a great run down the left. His cross found the former Dundee man who moved in towards goal. The ball broke to Gary Dempsey but he squandered the chance as he swung and missed it.

At half time Calderwood changed back to a 4-4-2 formation with Clark going to right back, Considine and Byrne were partnered in central defence and Nicholson moved to left back.

In the second half the Dons had to thank goalkeeper David Preece for keeping the score line blank. He made two great saves on 57 and 58 minutes.

Aberdeen had a couple of decent chances in the half. First Jamie Smith put in a good cross from the left. Jamie Winter met it and hit a great volley from about 20 yards out but it was straight at the De Graafschap goalkeeper.

Dutch trialist Rob Haveman was given another opportunity to show what he could do when he replaced Lovell on 70 minutes.

On 73 minutes Aberdeen created their best chance. Byrne and Smith combined down the left to set up Derek Adams. But from about the penalty spot he put his effort just past the right hand post.

Jimmy Calderwood will be hoping for a better performance against amateur side BVO Emmen on Thursday evening
