Dons ease to testimonial win |
 |
Aberdeen ran out comfortable winners this evening as a strong looking side lined up against Forres Mechanics for Charlie Brown?s testimonial. The home side made the perfect start however when Scott was impeded by Soutar in the 3rd minute and won a spot kick. Man of the moment Charlie Brown stepped up and fired the ball low to the right to beat Soutar and hand Forres a 1-0 lead.
The Dons recovered well from the early setback and went on to dominate the first half with Mackie (twice), Stewart, Macaulay and Winter all guilty of squandering chances. The Dons finally levelled in the 36th minute after Macaulay had beaten a couple of defenders and found Stewart who produced a composed finish. Late in the first half Taylor produced a fine save to deny Considine and keep Forres level at the interval.
Aberdeen continued their dominance after the break and went ahead in the 53rd minute when Dempsey fired the ball across the face of the goal and Stewart was on hand to prod the ball into the net. The match was put beyond Forres in the 68th minute after Maguire beat three defenders outside the box and his cross was turned into the net by Donald. Minutes later substitute keeper, McRitchie made a fine save from Maguire then the youngster almost capped a fine performance in the closing minute. He once again waltzed past three defenders, rounded the keeper then somehow contrived to miss the target with the goal at his mercy.
