The football season of 1907-8 opened yesterday, and evening matches were played in all the football centres.
The season was opened at Dens Park last night by an East of Scotland league match with Aberdeen. Miserable weather prevailed, and the attendance in consequence numbered only 3000. Teams:-
Dundee: Crumley; McKenzie, Chaplin; Neal, Lee, Jeffray; Dean, McDermott, Hunter, Macfarlane, Fraser.
Aberdeen: Macfarlane; Hume, Macintosh; Davidson, Drain, Robertson; Simpson, Muir, Wilson, O'Hagan, Lennie.
Referee - Mr. Winter, Dundee.
20 minutes after the start the Dundee forwards worked up the field, and Dean, when near the corner flag, got possession of the ball and crossed to Hunter, who banged home a lightning shot, which gave Macfarlane no chance. If the ball was centred and McDermott getting away on his own, again beat the custodian. After this until the finish of the first half Aberdeen were completely outplayed. The visitors' backs within the penalty area, sandwiched Hunter. A penalty was granted, and Dean, taking the kick, put Dundee three up. Few minutes later, from a clever cross by Fraser, McDermott added a fourth.
First few minutes of the restart so Aberdeen taking a little more say in matters. Their forwards got away in a body, and Wilson finished a run by beating Crumley. Dundee thereafter assumed the lead till the finish.
