AND THIS WAS A SCRATCH RAITH!
Dons were lucky to get off so lightly. Raith, who had last minute scramble complete their team, fielded three " Newmen " ?and were much superior.
Joyner was the Rover who drove most of the nails into Aberdeen's coffin. Bruce, local junior, palmed out a hot one from the left winger. The winger's second effort glanced off Taylor to enter the net in the first minute.
Centre-forward Newman, from Joyner, added a second. And when Joyner scored a clever goal of his own he really performed a theoretical hat trick.
But the bonniest goal of the lot was by right winger Stewart. He scampered half the length of the field before making young Bruce wonder what had passed him.
Lucky for Aberdeen Willie Lyon retained his penalty king crown. His two spot counters and a scrambled goal by Matt Armstrong was really a poor show.
Local laddie Jeffrey tried hard in the home attack, but hadn't the physique. The line as whole was bad, and terrible best describes their passing.
Rovers gave a sparkling display. Copy-book goalkeeping by ex-Don Doug Westland was a feature. Raith Applied all the bright features.
