Dons Qualify to Meet Champions
Rangers will provide the opposition to Aberdeen at Pittodrie Park on Saturday first in the North-Eastern League Cup competition. The Dons qualified to meet the champions by scoring a smart win over Dunfermline at East End Park in the second game of the first round. The Dons won by an aggregate of five goals to two. Their success on Saturday was due in no small measure to the inclusion of George Hamilton and Stan Williams in the attack. The Aberdeen team had to fight hard at East End Park. As a matter of fact, had the home team not wasted a penalty award in the closing stages the Dons might have been involved in another "tight" finish.

Solid Defence

Williams and Hamilton have improved since their departure from Pittodrie. The South African was a clever and progressive winger. There is more "fire" about Hamilton's play than when he was at Pittodrie. He has developed into a dangerous centre-forward. Dyer, who had to take the left-back berth because of an injury to Graham, played well. The Aberdeen defence was much more solid than in the first game. Aberdeen opened the scoring six minutes from the interval. A McCall-Williams movement saw Donaldson head the winger's cross back into the middle, and McCall was ready and waiting to whip the ball into the net. Dunfermline "missed the boat" when Cooper brought Christie down inside the penalty area and Miler shot over from the spot. With twenty-five minutes played Williams made the issue secure for the Dons when he got the ball through a crowd of players into the net following a free kick by Dunlop.
