TRIUMPH OF TEAMWORK |
 |
North-Eastern champions, Aberdeen, were not faced with formidable opposition at Kirkcaldy. Expected newcomers Bott (Newcastle Amateurs), Hardisty (Hibs), and Stead (St Mirren) were not available for Raith, and the side fielded proved very ordinary.
The defence was very shaky, and miskicks cropped up too often. It was from one of these that Aberdeen opened their score. Without being outstandingly impressive, Aberdeen showed better teamwork. Westlands, in goal, was Rovers' best defender Phypers tried hard to introduce cohesion into the attack, but, apart from isolated flashes, the forwards did not respond.
Johnstone, Gavin, Dunlop, Mutch, and Pattillo were most prominent for Aberdeen. Definitely nothing to get elated about in this match.
