Aberdeen must beat East Fife at Pittodrie on Saturday by a margin of two clear goals if they are to qualify for the second round of the Mitchell Cup. They went under to East Fife at Methil by the odd goal in three in the first leg of the first round. They deserved to be beaten, and but for Johnstone in goal the margin of victory for the Fifers would have been much bigger.

It is true thai Johnsione punched the ball into the net when East Fife equalised Williams' goal in the first half. The Aberdeen keeper twice had to receive trainer's attention immediately before the incident and he was hampered by Ruse or he might have turned the ball over the bar.
Apart from that, Johnstone gave a grand display, bringing off at least six wonderful saves.
The Aberdeen defence was very much at fault when Ruse got the goal ten minutes from time.
There was nevousness in Aberdeen's defence, and the attack did not impress. McKenna was sound at back. Dunlop was not at his best, but Taylor and Cruickshank got through a tremendous amount of work.
Pattillo was completely off colour, and Bremner did not hit it off. Williams at centre was neglected. Miller was a lively winger, and Baird would have done better had he been supported.
