Aberdeen's Poor Start in Victory Cup
Surprise Results at Alloa, Inverness and Cathkin

ABERDEEN will not go far in the Victory Cup competition unless Saturday's form against Hamilton Academicals at Pittodrie in the first leg of the first-round tie is considerably improved upon. Aberdeen were undoubtedly the better side, but Hamilton were the poorest team seen at Pittodrie this season. Neither eleven produced anything like the standard of play expected from "A" Division sides. As a cup-tie, the game was devoid of the thrills looked for on such an occasion.
The home defence was very reliable, but the half-backs were completely off form and did not go out boldly enough for the ball. Of the forwards, only McCall took any credit from the game.
In extenuation of Aberdeen's moderate display, it must be remembered that internationalsits Hamilton and Baird were absent. The latter will definitely play in the return came on Wednesday at Douglas Park, and Hamilton, who is on leave but was not too fit last week, is expected to appear. A. A. Kiddie is almost certain to resume at outside-right.
