match report 1908-09 fixture list
Grimsby Town 1 - 2 Aberdeen
Kick Off:    Burkinshaw       Niblo, Blackburn.
Attendance: 6,000
Venue: Blundell Park, Grimsby
This attractive friendly fixture was played at Grimsby in brilliant weather yesterday, and attracted a crowd of 6000. Grimsby played a representative team, whilst the Aberdeen were practically at full strength. The opening exchanges were evenly contested, though the Scotsman combined much better. Burkinshaw opened the scoring for Grimsby, and shortly afterwards Lennie hit the crossbar at the other end. Blackburn, tricking four men in succession in need style, passed unselfishly to Niblo, who easily scored for Aberdeen.

In the second half Aberdeen easily asserted their superiority, and were almost continuously pressing. The pretty and effective short passing movements of their forwards, combined with a complete understanding between them, was a feature of the game. The wing men - Lennie and Blackburn - were particularly clever, and it was the latter who, 10 minutes before time, again brilliantly beat three of the opposition and place to Aberdeen ahead with a fine shot.
