Former Aberdeen player Wilf Low appeared in the Newcastle team.
A collection was taken at he match to raise cash for the "Titanic Disater Fund" and raised £1 4s which at that time was a healthy sum. The Titanic had gone down only two weeks earlier.

Six thousand spectator gathered at Pittodrie last night, when Aberdeen played a friendly game with the crack English team Newcastle United. The game, which ended in a solitary goal win for the Tynesiders, was attractive enough in a way, but the display of the visitors by no means realised expectations. They were easily the superior side, and against their quick moving methods, Aberdeen's movements suffered by comparison. In the outfield Newcastle often bewildered the Aberdeen defence, but they lost all their advantage when shooting time came. Greig was not without his busy moments, and saved well from Stewart and Higgins, but the greater number of the visitors' efforts at goal-scoring resulted in the ball going either high or wide. To a great extent the game, which was supposed to be of an exhibition nature, was spoilt by the liking of the teams to play each other offside. In this way many pretty movements on both sides were nullified, and it was one of the disappointing features of the game. The first half was devoid of goals, although the Aberdeen citadel had one or two narrow escapes. Colman stood out in the Aberdeen defence for good tackling, and the absence of goals in the initial period was largely due to him.
Play was slightly more spirited in the second half when Aberdeen's increased strenuousness brought more out of the visitors. The same tendency on their part to shoot recklessly was again in evidence, and finally it was only through a penalty kick taken by Hudspeth that they were enabled to score and win. They forced numerous corners, but failed to improve upon these. On the Aberdeen side Soye and Wood often tricked the Newcastle defence, and both came very near to scoring. On the whole there was very little to enthuse over in the play, and the game was much below expectation.
