Arbroath 10 - 0 Victoria United
Kick Off:
Attendance: 0
Venue: Gayfield Park, Arbroath
Played at Gayfield, Arbroath, before a fair attendance of spectators. From the kick-off the ball was carried on to the Aberdeen men's goal, and Gray was beaten before the game was a minute old. Soon after a free kick to the Arbroath required the intervention of Gray, who saved capitally, and then Simpson's head averted another disaster. A second reverse to the visitors, however, followed. The Aberdeen custodian played smartly, but, despite his and the backs' efforts, Willocks, from a throw-in, scored the third goal for the home team. After fine open play, the same player scored the fourth. Play till near the close of the first half was mostly in mid-field, but just before the call of time Collie scored the fifth goal for the home team, the Aberdeen men having failed to score. Before recommencing the game the Aberdeen made a rearrangement of their front line, but they failed to make any impression on the home defence. The Aberdeen goal was strongly besieged, and Gray had to make a ready use of both his hands and feet. He succeeded in his defence for a time, but at length Rennie put the ball past him. After an ineffectual visit by the Victoria to the Arbroath goal, play became slow, but towards the close of the game the Northern goal was constantly besieged, and Skae succeeded in putting the ball through three times, while, as in the first half, Aberdeen did no scoring. The match thus ended: Arbroath, 10 goals; Victoria United, 0.

The "Vics" suffered a big defeat too, at Arbroath on Saturday. The game there finished ? Arbroath 10; Victoria United, 0. This rather marred the harmony of the sweet "Clementine" chorus on the way home.
