Victoria United 1 - 5 Arbroath
Kick Off:    Cannon
Attendance: 0
Venue: Victoria Bridge, Aberdeen
This, the opening match of the season for the Victoria, was played on the Victoria Bridge Recreation Grounds on Saturday.
For the first few minutes of the game play was pretty equal, but gradually the strangers bore down into their opponents' territory, and Duffus sent in a swift shot, which took effect. The "Vics" next had a look in and Fairweather all but scored, the goal-keeper saving cleverly. The Arbroath lads again took up the running, and by good combined play were enabled to add other three goals in quick succession. Nettled by these repeated reverses, the home forwards rushed the ball to the other end, and having managed to elude the backs, Cannon notched the first point. Shortly after half time was sounded, with Arbroath 4 to 1 in the ascendancy.
For a time after the commencement of the second half play continued in mid field, the forwards on neither side showing to much advantage. By and bye, however, the game became more open, and both goals were visited, and eventually Arbroath scored very softly, though not before Gray had kept out some dangerous looking shots. Arbroath continued to have moot of the play, though occasionally the Victoria broke away with considerable dash. The forwards, however, were well watched by O'Kane, and their efforts to score were ineffectual. The strangers were equally unsuccessful, and the match, which consisted of two 35's, ended: Arbroath, 5 ; Victoria United, 1.

The Arbroath boys met the Victoria United in the grounds over the water on Saturday, when the former gave our local chaps a 5-1 thing. Notwithstanding the manifest superiority of the strangers, the home team accomplished some good work during the match.,/p>
