match report 1890-91 fixture list
Victoria United 2 - 5 Forfar Athletic
Kick Off:  4:00 PM   Taylor, Turner
Attendance: 0
Venue: Victoria Bridge, Aberdeen
These elevens met at Victoria Bridge Grounds. The Forfar Athletic were twenty minutes behind time, so that the match, instead of starting at four o'clock as arranged, was not begun till half an hour later. Having secured by the toss the advantage of a strong wind the strangers at once pressed and getting up to the goal, the ball in the course of a scrimmage was kicked over the cross-bar. A point was claimed, and the referee (Mr Jaffrey) conceded. From the kick-off, the Forfar men again invaded and scored; and in point of fact during almost the whole of the first period - the Home eleven getting up field only once - kept the play in their own hands. When ends were changed the game stood at five goals in favour of the Athletics to love. In the second half the Vics, though putting forth every exertion and working well together, made little headway, being fairly outclassed. Taylor was the first to show the way to the goal mouth, and ten minutes afterwards Turner, from the goal line, scored a second point in rare style. The Athletics got up once or twice, but failed to improve on their total. The match ended in semi-darkness in a victory for the Forfar Athletic by 5 goals to 2.
