Charity Cup
Victoria United 2 - 2 Orion
Kick Off:    Burnett, ?       Barron, ?
Attendance: 0
Venue: Victoria Bridge, Aberdeen
Orion v Vics play off the first round of the Charity Cup tonight (Thursday) at Torry. The winning team get into the final while the losing eleven have to meet Aberdeen in the next round.
Peterhead would have been included in the competition, but on account of the expenses incurred in playing them they had to be left out, leaving the three Aberdeen clubs to fight for the cup.
Orion are getting into form again. Their victory over Lochee was well deserved. Although Barron is playing a good game, Jim Thom is badly missed at centre.
Yesterday evening the first round of the Aberdeen Charity Cup attracted, a large crowd of spectators to the Victoria Bridge Grounds, Torry, where those old-time rivals, the Orion and the Victoria United, were the opposing teams. Before the commencement of the match, which was timed for 6.30, both teams agreed to play 35 minutes each way, owing to the late hour; and, as things turned out, this arrangement was wise Neither team was the same as originally selected, and when they lined up they were as follows: Orion: Watson; Ross, Scott; Currie, Low, Wilson; Webster, Grant, Barron, Leggat, Hogg. Victoria United: Findlay; Kilgour, McNeil; Anderson, Moffat, McKenzie; Russell, Henderson, McIlvenny, Burnett, Ritchie. The Orion won the toss, and the Vics kicked off towards the town end. For a spell, play was of a give-and-take order, but gradually the Blues asserted their supremacy, and for the first twenty minutes, raided the Orion quarters again and again - without result until Burnett put them one up. From the kick-off they came again, but the Stripes repelled the attack, and took up the running. Play did not remain long in the home quarters, and a good break-away by the Blues' forwards looked dangerous. The parting shot went wide, and from the goal kick the Orion attacked ? but not for long, the Blues again coming with rare dash. Play was now of a fast nature, the ball travelling from end to end with great rapidity. The Torry team continued, however, to have the best of the exchanges, but the Stripes' defence prevailed. Henderson, for the former, now initiated an attack, and, dribbling past several of his opponents, gave to his partner on the wing. The pass was mulled, however, by McIlvenny, and, from the ensuing attack by the Orion, Barron was enabled to equalise with a shot which gave Findlay no chance. Play continued to rule fast, both ends being visited in turn, but no more scoring resulted during the first half, half-time arriving with the score one goal each.

No interval was allowed, and the teams immediately crossed over. On resuming, an attack by the Orion was fruitless, the ball going behind; and, from the goal-kick, the Blues attacked strongly, the ball remaining for a time in dangerous proximity to the Orion goal. At length relief was given by a long kick from one of the backs, and the Orion gave Findlay an anxious time. The defence prevailed, however, Kilgour clearing grandly. During the remainder of the second half play continued to be fast, both ends being visited in turn. Towards the close the match was played in semi-darkness, both sides storing one goal; and, immediately after the Orion had scored the equalising goal the whistle blew five minutes before time, with the score standing Orion 2, Victoria United 2. Under these circumstances, the tie will have to be replayed - probably next Thursday.

Short Kicks.

The Charity tie between Orion and Vics last Thursday was as fine a game as has been seen between locals this season.
From the commencement it was evident the teams were in fine form, and the result of 2-2 is a very fair criterion of the play.
The drawings amounted to about 19.
