At Chanonry, before 1500 spectators. Contrary to expectation, the Aberdeen gained a victory. Throughout they played a surprisingly good game, and on the afternoon's play were decidedly the better team. Commencing in strong fashion, the Whites improved as time advanced. Forward the play was very effective. The passing was more accurate than usual, and little or no hesitation was displayed in front of goal. Whitehead played a rattling, fine game on the left, and his centring was almost perfect. Thomson proved a suitable partner, and the pair got on immensely together, the Arbroath defence being continually bothered by them. Brown was also in form, and put in a lot of useful work on the right. Key has often played better, but he was well watched. All the half-backs did their duty. Cobban tackled well, and Collin Ross was effective with his head. Ketchen and Wood were all right at back, and Ritchie improves in goal. Arbroath played disjointedly and without much method. D. Willocks and Skea were the best of a rather indifferent front rank. Suttie played hard at half, and was the best of the three. Rennie was often beat, and perceptibly failed. At half-time Aberdeen had scored 2 goals to Arbroath's 0, and at the finish the result was Aberdeen, 4; Arbroath, 0.

It is a long lane that has no turning, and on Saturday the Aberdeen apparently reached the end. This they proved by drubbing such tough customers as the Arbroath by 4 goals to 0. The game was stopped - on the Arbroath protesting -7 minutes from time. This is decidedly hard lines, but I hope the Whites may emerge successfully and have the two points added to their register.

N.B. Arbroath protested the result of this fixture on the grounds that it was ended 7 minutes early because of darkness. The game was alleged to have started late because The Aberdeen had taken the field behind schedule. The League committee agreed that there should be a rematch and the rearranged game took place on 2nd April 1892.
