Played on Station Park, Forfar, on Saturday in very stormy weather.
The Aberdeen started the game uphill against a strong wind, and the ball was at once sent over the Aberdeen goal-line. The Aberdonians had a free kick in front of the Athletic goal, but the ball was sent over. The Athletic again rushed the ball down, but Low ran out and got the ball away. Ultimately Ramsay scored for the Athletic. The Athletic had several chances, but failed to utilise them, and then, from a run up of the visitors' forwards, Cobban shot wildly past. Mann and McFarlane sent in some fine long shots from half-back, and did most of the work of that line, Taylor being useless, but the defence prevailed. A beauty from Mann was held by Low, but Bowman caught the ball, and put it through, half-time being called with the Athletic leading by two goals to none.
On resuming, Aberdeen opened strongly, and called on Muckersie, who saved very coolly. The Athletic were up at the other end, and Ramsay shot past. A bungle on the part of the Athletic defence allowed the Aberdonians to get the first goal. Key quickly equalised, the game ending: Aberdeen, 4; Athletic, 2.
