A match between these beams was played on Links Park, Montrose, before a fairly large number of spectators. The Montrose men, winning the toss and kicking off towards the east goal, were soon called to act upon the defensive by the Orion, who were granted a corner, which, however, they failed to improve upon. Still keeping play in the home territory, the Orion demanded all McKie's energy to prevent scoring. Keillor now took the leather in charge, and, conveying it well up the field, scored the first goal for the Montrose. Good combination on the part of the home forwards sorely harassed the Orion defence, but Lumsden was equal to the occasion. A foul was granted to the strangers, but this only gave temporary relief, as, after an abortive attempt on the part of the Orion forward division, the Montrose again took up the running. After some play in front of the visitors? goal, Scott put on a second point for the homesters. At half-time the scores stood?Montrose, 2; Orion, 0.
On the resumption of play, Montrose invaded, and a long attack culminated in Burgess sending in a low shot, which, took effect. The Orion now essayed a run, and got dangerously near, but McKie saved. Returning, however, Andrews put in a fine shot, but the Montrose custodian averted a goal magnificently, and thereafter play was transferred to the Aberdonians' territory, where the fourth and fifth goals were scored in a remarkably short time. Thus when time sounded the scores stood: Montrose, 5 ; Orion. 0.
