These two local teams met at Central Park, Kittybrewster, in stormy weather, and before a fair turnout of spectators. The teams were United: Edwards, Foote, Ririe, Morrice, Annand, Duffus, Turner, Benzie, Sutherland, Clark, Ferries. Orion: James, Mackay, Ross, White, Dawson, Ritchie, Thorn, McFarlane, Forsyth, Gloag, and Leggat.
The Orion, although considerably weakened since last season by secessions - Edwards and Foote, who did yeoman service for them, appearing in the ranks of their opponents - greatly surprised the spectators at the start by scoring the first goal within a minute from the kick off. They kept up the pressure for some time, and although repulsed for a brief space they again managed to score. The United, however, asserted themselves, and scored their first point, but at half-time they had failed to equalise, and the teams crossed over with the score standing: Orion 2, Victoria United 1.
Shortly after the resumption the Vics, had hard lines in not adding to their total, a good header by Clark just going over the bar; but Ferries in a few minutes put the teams on level terms with a good shot. Then the Orion broke away twice, but without result, and the Vics, retaliated. Unfortunately, however, they experienced the hardest of hard lines, shot after shot just missing, and several corners having to be conceded by the Orion defence to avoid the downfall of their goal. James, in goal, did splendid work for the home team, and twice saved in capital style. The goal, however, was forced at last, but the point was disallowed. Up till the end of the game the Victoria United had, with the exception of two occasions when the Orion rushed off, all the play, and two additional goals were put on. A one sided game ended: Victoria United, 4 goals; Orion, 2 goals.
