Northern League
Arbroath 11 - 1 The Aberdeen
Kick Off:          White
Attendance: 0
Venue: Gayfield Park, Arbroath
Aberdeen played their first league fixture at Arbroath, when they sustained a disastrous defeat. In the first half the Aberdeen played a splendid game, and several times experienced very hard lines in not scoring. The homesters then got away with a rush and a magnificent shot from Findlay was fisted out in fine style by Tom Smyth. Petrie next had a brilliant run from midfield, and the visitors' defence had to save at the expense of a comer, which proved fruitless. The Aberdeen forwards then had a look in, and the homesters' custodian had repeatedly to fist out. The Arbroath forwards then took up the running, and Maxwell passing to Petrie the latter sent in a shot which beat Smyth. Two other goals were scored in quick succession, and then the Aberdeen forwards wakened up to their position, and some splendidly-combined runs ended in well placed shots being fisted out by Mann. The visitors now seemed considerably outplayed, and other two goals were put on before half-time. In the second half the Whites were completely demoralised, and the Arbroath had comparatively little difficulty in scoring other 6 goals. Only once did the visitors manage to score, on which occasion Whyte did the needful, A hard game ended: Arbroath 11, Aberdeen 1.
