Victoria United 4 - 2 Montrose
Kick Off:    Smith, Ferries, Ferries, Ferries
Attendance: 0
Venue: Wellington Bridge Grounds, Aberdeen
The Victoria United had as their guests at the Wellington Grounds the Montrose. The teams were: Montrose: A. Bowman; Burgess, Macintosh; Thornton, Paterson, Duncan; Stephen, Gibb, Murray, Dunn, Macfarlane. United: Cannon; Foote, Ririe; Morice, Annand, Ritchie; Turner, Benzie, Clark, Smith (of Paisley), Ferries.

The Victoria United won the toss, and the Montrose kicked off. The visitors pressed, and, after a stiff tussle, the homesters got relief. The "Blues" then had a run down the field, and for a time gave the visitors' custodian some trouble. Eventually Smith scored by means of a shot which Bowman could not get near. Shortly afterwards Ferries put in a second goal. Before the ball had been well kicked off Ferries repeated the performance. The ball then travelled from goal to goal, but no farther scoring took place in the first half.

In the second half the United played a splendid game. Fifteen minutes of the period had gone before any side had scored, then a soft shot from Ferries went through. The Montrose subsequently had an innings, and in a short time two goals were scored. Result: Victoria United 4, Montrose 2.

The "Gable Endies" were the visitors at Wellington Grounds on Saturday. On their last friendly visit they went home with a win, but on this occasion the blues turned the tables rather cleverly. The Vics. re-arranged their front rank, playing Clark in centre, Smith, a lad from Threadopolis, inside left, and Ferris outside left. The game in the first twenty minutes was all in favour of the home team, who scored three goals inside that period - two coming from Ferris, and one from the Paisley importation. The feature of the play in the initial moiety was the excellent work of the left wing, who went along In capital order. The closing bouts of this half were about square, the Montrose contesting every inch of the ground. The second period's play was generally in favour of the visiting team, Bowman getting fly to Ferris, and holding him pretty well in band. Cannon was sorely tried, but though two points were got past him, his work was fully up to his best standard, time and again saving his citadel single-handed.

N.B. For the uninitiated: "Threadopolis" was a Victorian nickname for Paisley.
