These teams met at Chanonry to fulfill their League engagement. The weather was bitterly cold, and the ground was coated with snow, a state of matters which made the attendance of spectators smaller than it would otherwise have been. The teams were: Forfar: Muckersie; James, Scott; Shepherd, Taylor, Mann; Anderson, Scrimgeour, Lyon, Booth, McFarlane. Aberdeen: Ramsay; John Davidson, A. Brown; Davidson, Morren, Ewan; Reith, Kirkpatrick, McFarlane, Whitehead, Watt. Mr Smith, Montrose, was referee. Before the start the strangers objected to the game being considered a League match, holding that the ground was not in a fit condition, and also that the touch lines were not properly marked.
Half an hour late Aberdeen kicked off. They had by far the beat of the opening stages of the game, but in front of goal they played very loosely, and that, along with the fine defence of Muckersie, prevented scoring. The strangers then rushed off, and Lyon, from a corner, opened the scoring. Almost immediately a second followed from the foot of Anderson. This had the effect of spurring on the home players, and after a hard struggle they notched their first point. Forfar replied with a third goal, but again the Whites were equal to the occasion, and by adding two goals in as many minutes they once more placed themselves on level terms with their opponents. At half-time the scores were three goals each.
With a strong wind in their favour in the second half, Aberdeen again started well, and, though for some time they were unsuccessful, they at last put on a fourth point, Reid having the credit. Immediately thereafter Morran had another goal. A capital series of runs by the Forfar forwards followed. Lyon was prominent, and a fine effort on his part yielded his team a fourth goal. Aberdeen scored a sixth point from a scrimmage. By this time darkness had set in, and this latterly became so great that the referee stopped the game ten minutes before time. The score then stood: Aberdeen 6, Forfar Athletic 4.

The Aberdeen has at last done something worthy of its high reputation. The match, which was most enthusiastically fought out on both sides, had to be closured seven minutes from time. Forfar protested before starting on the indistinct nature of the touch lines, which, however, the referee thought quite satisfactory, and as the protestors were 25 minutes late in lining up the Aberdeen
should have no difficulty in proving their right to the two points. Sportsmen generally hailed the
victory with pleasure, and we trust it is the beginning of many more wins for the whites. There was
a marked improvement in the play of the forwards, who have during the season been of very weak calibre. On Saturday they behaved splendidly, and if they are available for the remaining fixtures there is no reason to doubt that the old club will make a much better appearance than was expected. Every effort must be made, however, to send the full team from home, as unless this is done, success need not be looked for in their League encounters.
